Jack and I took a drive over to Antrim to check out a store named A Place In The Woods www.placeinthewoods.biz/ It is under new ownership since last July, John and Diane Kendall, and I had met Diane a number of times at various sheep festivals around New England. Diane is known for her wonderful teeshirts that espouse various knitting and dyeing lines on them with fun artwork. They are for sale in the shop. I bought one yesterday, simple white with green lettering “Knit Free or Dye”. We also bought some new gloves, fleece with thermal linings for $10…good enough! It’s a nice store with something for everyone. A couple can go there and both be entertained from the hunting and fishing to the clothing, boots and canoes, and much more.
It started to snow just after we got there, very lightly. Antrim is northeast from us and with the storm coming in from the west, by the time we left to come back the roads were snow-covered. But we love driving in the snow so it was great fun. Of course we like ANYTHING to do with snow! This morning on the news we heard the roads were at their worst from 4-6PM, exactly the times we were on them. It has been snowing since yesterday with at least 6 new inches of snow!

Here are a few shots this morning. See how the sheep line up at the snow bar for a lick. They have plenty of good clean water and they still love fresh snow! Wetherby was on a mission to come see me for a chin scratch!
It is still snowing. There is a cold front moving in with a burst of snow ahead of it and then wind and cold temperatures. Yippee!
Sunday’s fun to follow later on…..

The comment posted below under “Hard Drive…Shame On You” has spurred me to share a post which I wrote weeks ago but never put forth to you. Blogging is a personal thing and it’s fun. I enjoy sharing daily news and other stuff with you. Us bloggers know this! In fact I want to start a once in a while giveaway for fiber related things I no longer need or can use; no not my drum carder(silly you), no not my needle collection, no not my sheep (way silly you)! But maybe a funky spindle or some yarn, you know, fun stuff! Maybe even some grape jam! But what the heck! How can I play if you don’t step up to the plate?! It takes two to tango! I haven’t figured out the giveaway just yet but when I do you’ll be the ones to know it. It will be simple and easy and everyone will know who gets the givaway. So anyway here’s what I wrote weeks ago….
Hey all you quiet watchers and friends….I know you are out there! You read my blog, you tell me so via emails and such, but very few of you comment. Did you know you can? Did you know a blogger loves to know you are out there? All you have to do (and mind you, I am not demanding it, but perhaps you don’t know this) is click on the word “comments” at the bottom of any post and follow the prompts…fire away and I’d love to hear from you. It’s safe and a fun way to stay in touch. I know you are out there! (<:

Back to the lookout today for our first fire. We stacked the wood to burn next winter and then started a fire with the dead wood and branches that Jack had cut so far, Before too long it was a nice warm fire. The snow fell all day today, not much accumulation but in such a gentle, all day kind of way.
Down below the church bell in the village chimed, woodpeckers and chickadees worked their way around us. It was so relaxing. I find that spending time like we did today, basically mindless and stress-free, opens the mind and frees it up when it next needs to work. Tonight marks the 10th day we have run one of our two fireplaces, this which is in the center of the house. It was a cold snap and the price of oil has been so high and we managed to heat 4 of our 9 rooms with wood for 10 days. Mind you, this is NOT the way to burn wood to heat a house but it was a fun and a priceless venture seeing as we cut the wood here ourselves. Happy to save a few bucks on fuel oil. So fire, yes, it’s relaxing!

I have spent the past day getting some much needed dyeing done. Stock is low at the local store so I have dyed 2 and 1/2 pounds and am mordanting another 4# today so I can do more dyeing this week. It is bloody cold here! No other way to describe it. The wind is about 10 mph and the day temps are hovering around 10 above. But I closed the shed door to warm it up a bit and I can do the dyeing with one foot back in the kitchen. Works really well actually. The dyes from left to right are simple: logwood purple, logwood purple/madder and weld. Love that weld! Love them all really. The two left batches are on gray yarn from our Jackie and the weld is on white yarn from our Crystal. Back to the mordanting….
